Commerce stream has a sea of options and opportunities for those who want to make their career and achieve their goals in life and it has always been an evergreen subject to study as far as career avenues are concerned. Most of the students opt this stream because they all want to put their step forward in business and follow its strategies. The study of commerce provides a springboard for work opportunities in the range of financial services, banking and industry, entrepreneurial ventures, law and government services. At present, the commerce is arguably the most popular and preferred academic choice among the students.

About the Department

The Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering departments of Alagappa Government Arts College, Karaikudi which came into existence in the year 1948. This Department offers B.Com, M.Com, M.Phil, and Ph.D programmes. The Department has an excellent team of teachers. At present, it has 9 well qualified, experienced and committed whole time permanent faculty members, 14 temporary full time faculty members and 1 part time faculty member. Department strives to maintain high quality of teaching and research. The department also focuses on knowledge enhancement, developing leadership skills and character, innovative thinking abilities, faith -based values and ethics, providing mentorship opportunities, entrepreneurs, accountants and managers in consistence with the requirements of corporate world . There is a well-stocked library, which houses a good number of books on commerce, management, economics, finance and related subjects. Faculties are actively involved in research and published research articles in reputed International and National Journals. The area of research includes marketing, finance, human resources and quality management. Faculty members are also actively engaged in participating and presenting research papers in National and International Conferences.
